Set the psychedelic backdrop of Jefferson Airplane’s ‘White Rabbit’ Celebrity Cruises has unveiled an ethereal TV spot called ‘Wonder Awaits.’
It is the first campaign created by Lucky Generals, after it won the bid for Celebrity in the autumn of last year.
The TV spot follows a female protagonist on a voyage of discovery through a dream-like wonderland – onboard Celebrity Cruises’s newest ship – ‘Celebrity Edge.’
After dozing off on her sun lounger, she plunges gracefully down a psychedelic body of water, before landing on the dining table of one of the cruises. She then embarks on a weird eden-istic journey, that sees her experience all the ships offerings.
The song is, of course, a classic. Grace Slick’s voice on White Rabbit always gives me goosebumps. But I wonder if the cruise line using the song in their new commercial knows that the song is about taking psychedelic drugs. To me, the ad looks like it is promoting cruises where psychedelics are “feeding your head”. Hmmm. Maybe somebody should inform Celebrity what the song is about?
CommentI was traveling from Seattle to the end of the road in Tolum, Mexico, in a VW camper. We drove into the mountains to visit Maria Sabina. On the drive up, middle of the night, we dodged rabbits crossing the dirt road, and every so often Native Indians would pop out offering hongos. We kept driving while we listened to … this is true … White Rabbit on the 8-track. 1970, a year after my drive to Kathmandu and back to London. ahh Jefferson Airplane gave me many good times in the ’60’s and I hope other boomers enjoy this ad as much as I do. And the ship is a trip also.
The cruise ad is astonishing & makes me want to be on it -even if I don’t swim. I’m 69 & haven’t done much except go to about 140 concerts – 4 daughters- 12 grandkids & 4 great grandkids. I tell all of my young to do what they want – NOW – don’t wait until age gets you down or sick- then you CAN’T do it.
I’m so proud of you Gracie… I’m proud that I was a (wannabe ) hippie. Clothes- hair – music then at 16 married …life over? Well almost. I had seen only The Beatles & Paul Revere & the Raiders…and I got to be 25 & began the concerts & still going! Reading about you & how I would love to have had a huge voice like yours! I would’ve never had the courage to do like you but I have thought the same about legalizing marijuana & it would help every one out. I say that bc I have pain all over from my neck to my toes. I read about numerous artists lately for the abc contest on the Eagle radio – Conroe, Tx. You are still radiat!! Theresa
